Fundamental Principles
The Kawartha Muslim Religious Association”, referred to as the
"KMRA" is a not-for-profit, charitable and a religious organization which
is strictly guided by the Principles of Islam based on the Holy Qur`an and
the established Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him.
Aims and objectives
- To preserve and promote the principles and practices of Islam and
Islamic culture in the Kawartha region of the Province of Ontario.
- To build bridges of understanding and mutual respect between Muslims
and non-Muslims through education and dialogue.
- To adhere strictly to the tenets of Shari’ah (Law) according to the
Sunni Juristic Schools of Thought in the running of the Masjid Al-Salaam.
- To establish and maintain in the Kawarthas an Islamic Centre
comprising of the Masjid, library, school and a sports complex.
- To provide Islamic education for children and adults.
- To acquire and/or arrange for burial plots; and provide funeral
services according to Islamic religious rites.
Membership
There are Three types of members:
- Regular Members: Regular members are those Muslims 18 years of age
and over, living in the area; and who have paid their annual dues. To be
eligible for voting rights, the Regular members must satisfy a residency
requirement of a six (6) months time period.
- Junior Members: Junior members are those Muslims less than 18 years
of age living in the area.
- Honorary Members: Honorary members are persons who accept the purpose
of KMRA and who by judgment and discretion by the Board of Directors have
rendered an outstanding contribution to the purpose of KMRA.
